Joint security forces have conducted two successful operations in Kotido and Nabilatuk districts, recovering stolen livestock and intensifying efforts to curb cattle theft and violence in the region.

Kotido operation
On February 28, 2025, security forces tracked and recovered seven (07) cows stolen by suspected Jie warriors from Mr. Aduku Angela’s grazing area in Kalonglomuge. The operation led to a confrontation where one suspected warrior was put out of action, while another was lynched by an irate mob. The forces successfully intercepted the stolen livestock in Lokomebu, restoring them to their rightful owner.

Nabilatuk incident
In a separate development, security personnel in Nabilatuk are investigating the discovery of two unidentified bodies found on grazing grounds in Morungabel and Welthunger villages on February 28, 2025. Initial reports indicate that Pokot individuals with kraals in Morungabel allegedly abducted three Karamojong herders, of whom one managed to escape, while the other two were later found dead.

Authorities urge public cooperation
Security agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to cattle theft or violence to the Uganda Police Force (UPF), Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), or local authorities. Authorities have warned against mob justice and vigilantism, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring safety and security for all. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the crimes.
