Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games I girls’ football bronze medalists and Ankole zone champions, Boni Consilii Girls’ Vocational School, began their quest for a first-ever national title with a commanding 3–0 victory over former champions Masaka SS in their opening Group I match on Thursday.
The highly anticipated encounter, which pitted two of the strongest teams in the history of secondary school girls’ football, remained goalless until the second half. Midfielder Loyce Komugisha struck twice to break the deadlock, before substitute Catherine Natuhwera added a third to seal the win and leave Masaka SS with little chance of a comeback.
It was also a positive start for other Ankole representatives, Kashenshero Girls and Kibingo Girls, who both won their opening fixtures. Kashenshero edged Tooro giants King of Kings 4–3 in a thrilling contest, while Kibingo Girls secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Kigezi side Bishop Comboni College Kambuga.
However, it was a difficult start for Kinoni High School, Ijumo Progressive, and St. Andrew’s Rubindi, who all suffered defeats despite being considered among the title hopefuls.

Kinoni High School lost 5–0 to Amus College, Ijumo Progressive fell 6–0 to St. Noa, while St. Andrew’s Rubindi—who replaced disqualified Sheema Girls—put up a spirited fight but lost 3–1 to record champions Kawempe Muslim.
A win in the opening match of a four-team group significantly boosts a team’s chances of progressing to the next stage, putting the early winners in a strong position.
