Police in Sheema District, Greater Bushenyi Region, are investigating the brutal murder of a 67-year-old woman — the latest in a string of violent killings reported in the area since the start of the year.
The victim, Jane Tindimubona, a resident of Kahama Cell, Rushozi Ward in Kabwohe Division, was allegedly attacked and strangled to death in her home on the night of June 15, 2025.
According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect, Darius Tibesigwa (27), a neighbor, broke into her house armed with a panga and a knife, intending to steal money. Tindimubona had reportedly sold coffee earlier that day, and Tibesigwa believed she had kept the cash in the house. A family member reportedly spotted the masked intruder during the attack.
Police quickly deployed a K9 unit, and the trained dog successfully tracked the suspect's scent to his house. As Tibesigwa attempted to flee, the dog's pursuit helped identify him.
However, before police could arrest him, angry residents overpowered both the suspect and officers — and lynched him on the spot. Tindimubona’s body was taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, and the scene was secured for further investigation.
SP Tayebwa Apollo, Acting Regional Police Spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, condemned the mob action and urged the public to allow law enforcement to carry out its mandate.
“We strongly condemn mob justice. No matter the circumstances, taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable,” SP Tayebwa said. “We ask residents to remain calm and cooperate with police during investigations.”

District hit by rising violence
Tindimubona’s killing adds to a growing number of violent deaths reported in Sheema District since January, raising concerns among community members and local leaders.
Call for vigilance
The wave of killings — affecting victims from infants to the elderly — has triggered calls from residents for stronger police presence, better lighting in trading centers, and the revival of community watch groups.
Police continue to urge public cooperation and encourage early reporting of suspicious activity.
“We are following all leads. Mob justice complicates investigations and risks innocent lives,” SP Tayebwa added.
