Police in Mbarara City have arrested two men in connection with the death of a bus broker who was fatally assaulted during a fight at the Mbarara Bus Park. The suspects have been identified as Akol Vincent (34), a passenger guide with Tausi Bus Company, and Wabwire Isma (25), a broker attached to the same company. The deceased, Asasira Lameck (20), was a broker working with KR Coaches.
According to Rwiizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., when a misunderstanding broke out between workers of KR Coaches and Tausi Bus Company.
“It is alleged that Akol of Tausi Bus Company started fighting with Shafik, a worker of KR Coaches. When Asasira Lameck rushed to intervene, he was punched by Akol, Wabwire, and others, causing him to fall and become unconscious,” SP Kasasira said.
Asasira was immediately rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. However, he was pronounced dead at around 3:00 a.m. on October 9, 2025, while receiving treatment for severe head injuries.
Police arrested the two suspects shortly after the incident and are currently holding them in custody at CPS Mbarara as investigations continue.
“The body has been taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death,” Kasasira added.
Police have since opened a case file of murder by assault, and inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
