Arriving in Kigali on Saturday evening, Gen Kainerugaba was warmly received by his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, along with other senior Rwandan Defence Forces officials. Accompanying him were Maj Gen James Birungi, Brig Gen Richard Karemire, Alexander Akandwanaho, and Andrew Mwenda.

Gen Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is expected to hold strategic discussions with President Kagame and Gen Muganga during his visit. His presence at the ceremony underscores the critical role he has played in mending the once-strained relations between Uganda and Rwanda, which had previously affected trade and movement across the border.
