Sheema, Uganda - President Yoweri Museveni has issued a strong warning to Ugandans about the dangers of land fragmentation, emphasizing that subdividing land among children hinders commercial agriculture, which is crucial for Uganda's economic growth. Museveni made these remarks while addressing residents during his Presidential Parish Development Model (PDM) tour at Pamoja Mixed Farm in Karyango Village, Kyangyenyi Subcounty, Sheema District. The farm, owned by Honest Abenawe, accommodates 25 dairy cattle, a 10-acre banana plantation intercropped with coffee, and an apiary. Abenawe highlighted that the project has benefited not only their family but also their neighbors.
Before visiting Abenawe, the President met Parish Development Model farmer Tumusiime Desirata in Kizurugo Village, Rubirizi Parish, who received PDM funding in 2023 and now owns six pigs and four goats. He later visited Harriet Ahimbisibwe, a farmer in Ibanda Municipality, who received PDM funds in 2022 and now owns 21 pigs. Speaking to Torch Media Africa, Sheema District Members of Parliament commended President Museveni for his four-acre model farming campaign, saying it has helped farmers with small pieces of land maximize productivity.
As part of his support for agricultural development, Abenawe donated a heifer to the President, while Museveni pledged to donate a motor vehicle (Canter) and 10 heifers to Abenawe to further boost agricultural productivity in the region.
