The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has banned the controversial song Mukube Paver by artist Dynaso Wegoso, ordering all broadcasters, digital platforms, internet service providers, and the public to immediately cease its airing, sharing, and distribution.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the regulator said it had received numerous complaints about the song’s content and growing influence, which has sparked weeks of public outrage.
UCC said a preliminary review of the song’s lyrics and accompanying audio-visual material found that it “explicitly and implicitly promotes, incites, and glorifies violence and aggressive conduct.”
The commission also raised concern over what it described as dangerous imitation behaviour, particularly on platforms such as TikTok, where young people have been recreating violent acts through viral challenge videos inspired by the song.
At the centre of the controversy is the phrase “Mukube paver, Mwase Kawanga,” loosely translated as “Hit them with a paver, break their skull.”
A paver is a hard exterior block made of concrete, brick, or stone, commonly used in walkways and driveways.
The lyrics have drawn sharp criticism amid rising cases of violent crime in Kampala and surrounding areas, where pavers have reportedly been used as weapons in robberies and assaults.

UCC warned that the continued circulation of the song poses a threat to public safety, undermines societal values, and violates established broadcasting and content standards.
The directive requires all media houses and online platforms to comply immediately, with the commission cautioning that failure to do so may attract regulatory sanctions. The artist had not publicly responded to the ban by press time.
