Police in Kira Division, working jointly with other security agencies, have arrested ten suspects during a late-night operation aimed at dismantling criminal gangs operating within the Kampala Metropolitan Area. The operation was carried out on January 29, 2026, at around 10:00 p.m. in the Buwate–Najjera area of Kira Municipality. According to police, the suspects were found inside a wooden structure, allegedly smoking substances believed to be narcotics.

During the raid, officers recovered several exhibits, including rolled sticks and powdered leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects routinely consumed narcotic substances before engaging in criminal activities such as waylaying pedestrians and stoning moving vehicles, posing a serious threat to public safety.

The suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue. Police say a case of possession of narcotic substances, specifically opium, has been registered against them, and they are expected to be produced in court.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, noting that security operations will continue during and after the election period to ensure the safety and security of the public.
