NSANGI – Police in Nsangi have arrested a driver and impounded a Toyota Hiace (UAG 660Q) that was dangerously overloaded with over 30 soccer fans, including students, traveling in a reckless manner. Some passengers were seen hanging out of windows, while others were precariously seated on top of the vehicle.

The interception, which took place earlier today, was part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and prevent accidents caused by reckless transportation. According to the Uganda Police, the detained driver will face court proceedings for violating traffic regulations.

“We strongly condemn such reckless behavior, as it not only violates traffic laws but also puts lives at risk,” SP Kananura Michael the traffic police spokesperson stated in a message.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of safe travel, emphasizing that transporting soccer fans should never come at the cost of road safety. The police have urged drivers and event organizers to adhere to transport guidelines to avoid endangering passengers.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of overloading vehicles and disregarding traffic laws, with police vowing to continue enforcing safety measures on the roads.
