The Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) have officially handed over the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results to headteachers, marking a year of improved academic performance across the district.

During a meeting held at the District Council Hall on Wednesday, District Inspector of Schools, Michael Matigi, presented a detailed breakdown of the performance. Out of the candidates who sat for the exams, 1,074 pupils (23.4%) attained Division One, while 2,758 (60.2%) secured Division Two. Another 486 pupils (10.6%) fell into Division Three, and 135 (2.9%) into Division Four. However, the report also highlighted concerns, with 64 pupils (1.4%) failing (Division U) and 66 pupils (1.4%) marked under Grade X, indicating they were registered but did not sit for the examinations.

CAO Orders Probe into Absenteeism
The CAO, Ms. Phionah Sanyu, took a stern stance regarding the 66 pupils who missed the exams, tasking headteachers to provide an urgent report on their whereabouts and the reasons for their absence. “Headteachers must find out why these pupils never sat for the exams and submit a report to my office immediately,” Sanyu directed. She cautioned that school heads who register pupils but fail to follow up on their attendance—or fail to report their absence—will be held personally responsible.

Echoing these concerns, the RDC, Mr. Emmy Ngabirano, warned headteachers against the illegal practice of chasing pupils away due to unpaid school dues, particularly in schools receiving the Universal Primary Education (UPE) capitation grant. "In a situation where the government pays UPE grants, no child is expected to be chased out of school. Every child must attain free and affordable education as per the government’s mandate," Ngabirano stated.

Amidst the national celebrations following the release of the 2025 PLE results—conducted under the theme “Embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment”—Bushenyi emerged as one of the top-performing districts in the country. Scenes of celebration and emotion unfolded across several schools, with pupils, parents, and teachers welcoming the improved performance and renewed hope for academic excellence.

Parental Care Primary Outshines the District
Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi maintained its status as a regional academic powerhouse, continuing to outshine other schools in the district. It was the only institution in the district to produce candidates with the coveted Aggregate 4, with two pupils achieving the perfect score. Out of 120 candidates registered at Parental Care, all sat for the exams. An impressive 112 pupils passed in Division One, while only eight fell into Division Two. Furthermore, 12 pupils scored Aggregate 5.

The school's subject-specific performance was equally remarkable, with 107 pupils scoring Distinction One (D1) in Science, 60 in Mathematics, 29 in English, and 2 in Social Studies.

The Secret to Success
The School Director, Mr. Trevor Yebazamukama, attributed the stellar performance to a “non-confinement” teaching philosophy that encourages learners to explore knowledge beyond the traditional classroom setting. “This exposure enables learners to approach their exams with a free-flowing and confident mind, resulting into success,” Yebazamukama noted.

As schools across Bushenyi receive their results, the district leadership remains hopeful that this upward trend in academic excellence will be sustained through continued teacher accountability and a focus on keeping every registered child in school.
