The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), Frank Tumwebaze, has announced a rebound in coffee prices after months of decline. In a statement released today, the ministry confirmed that coffee prices have risen following a slump attributed to global demand and supply imbalances, coupled with oversupply from major producers such as Brazil, Vietnam, and India.

Media statement MAAIF released on Monday about new coffee prices

“In my earlier brief of June 2025, I highlighted the challenges that had led to a decline in coffee prices, particularly global demand and supply imbalances, and oversupply from major producers including Brazil, Vietnam, and India. At that time, I assured you that the ministry was working diligently with all stakeholders to safeguard our coffee sector and stabilize farm-gate prices. I also indicated that, based on our projections, by mid-August 2025 coffee prices would recover,” Tumwebaze stated. The minister explained that Arabica coffee prices have now increased to between UGX 13,500–14,000 per kilogram (Arabica parchment), while FAQ (Fair Average Quality) coffee is selling at UGX 13,000–14,000 per kilogram.
“I am pleased to confirm today that this prediction has come true. Coffee prices have indeed rebounded to the expected levels. This reflects commitment, confidence in Uganda's quality coffee by international buyers, and farmers' resilience,” the minister added.

Tumwebaze also urged farmers and actors in the coffee value chain to uphold quality and adopt best practices. “As we embrace this positive development, I call upon all farmers and actors in the coffee value chain to continue focusing on: Maintaining high quality standards at harvesting, drying, and processing to safeguard Uganda's reputation as a producer of premium coffee; Adopting good agricultural practices to increase productivity and quality; Strengthening farmer organizations and cooperatives to enhance bargaining power; and Exploring value addition opportunities to reduce vulnerability to international price fluctuations.”

The minister reiterated government’s commitment to protecting the interests of coffee farmers and ensuring the sector remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s economy and a source of livelihood for millions of households.
