Mbarara City — Police in Mbarara are investigating a suspected case of drowning after the body of an unidentified male adult was recovered floating on River Rwizi on Thursday evening.
According to the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, SP Kasasira Samson, the body was discovered at around 6:30pm on 10 July 2025 near Nyamitanga Bridge in Kasanyaraze Cell, Kakoba Ward, Mbarara City.
Residents who spotted the body floating on the river promptly alerted the Police. Officers from Mbarara Central Police Station responded and retrieved the body, which has since been taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. Police have opened a death inquiry file and are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased.
“We urge anyone with a missing relative or friend to visit CPS Mbarara to help identify the deceased person,” SP Kasasira said.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
