Bushenyi
The Traffic Police in Bushenyi District are investigating a fatal road crash that occurred early this morning at Rwentuha, opposite Kituzi Fuel Station along the Bushenyi–Mbarara Road.
The accident, which happened at about 12:23 am on November 22, 2025, claimed the life of Kanyatsi Amond, a 30-year-old resident of Nyamirima Village in Rwentuha Sub-county. Another yet-to-be-identified passenger who was riding with him sustained severe injuries and was rushed to KIU Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a Tausi Bus, registration UBN 141K, travelling from Bushenyi to Mbarara, collided with a motorcycle, registration UFB 852B, which was heading in the opposite direction.
Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa confirmed the incident, saying: “Our preliminary findings point to reckless driving by the bus driver. Efforts are underway to have him apprehended for further interrogation.”
He added that the police were able to quickly secure and document the scene.
“We processed the scene according to standard procedure and conveyed the body to KIU Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination,” Tayebwa said. “Both the bus and the motorcycle have been impounded to aid ongoing inquiries.”
Eyewitnesses described the crash as sudden and violent.
“The motorcycle was badly damaged, and the rider looked lifeless. People were shouting for help as we tried to assist before the police arrived.”
Another eyewitness claimed the bus driver appeared to be speeding.
“The bus was moving very fast. By the time we heard the bang, it was too late,” he said.
Police have appealed to the public to share any information that may assist the investigation and urged all road users to prioritise safety. “We strongly caution drivers and riders to avoid reckless behaviour. Lives are being lost unnecessarily,” Tayebwa noted.
The Traffic Police extended their condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged to keep the public updated as investigations continue.
