Gulu City
Police have arrested 41 suspects in connection with acts of violence, assault, and looting that occurred in Gulu City Centre on December 6, 2025, during a campaign visit by the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
According to a statement issued by Police spokesperson David Mudong, the arrests followed a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation conducted on the night of December 18, 2025, in Gulu City and its surrounding suburbs. The operation was informed by analysis of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other intelligence networks. “The suspects are currently being detained at Gulu Central Police Station as investigations continue,” Mudong said.
Police revealed that among those arrested is Aleng Fatuma, who is alleged to have played a key role in mobilising suspected criminal gangs using various media platforms, including TikTok.
Mudong added that operations are still ongoing to identify and apprehend all accomplices involved in the criminal acts. “As earlier promised, all individuals found culpable will either be summoned or arrested in accordance with the law,” he said.
Police have appealed to the public, particularly residents of the Acholi sub-region, to remain calm as investigations proceed, assuring them of their commitment to ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The violence, which erupted during the campaign activities in the city centre, involved reported assaults on members of the public and the looting of property, prompting heightened security operations in the area.
