Bushenyi District is facing a severe health staffing crisis, with current capacity standing at a critically low 31.2%. This alarming figure was the central focus of a quarterly meeting today at the district headquarters, where Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Ms. Sanyu Phionah addressed district health facility in-charges alongside the District Health Officer (DHO).

Addressing the facility heads, CAO Phionah emphasized the urgent need to focus on the forthcoming national assessment by the Office of the Prime Minister—an exercise that determines the level of service delivery across the sector. She assured the attendees that the significant challenge of understaffing would be addressed in the near future. In the interim, Ms. Phionah stressed the importance of institutional resilience, urging the facility in-charges to proactively build internal teams. This strategy aims to ensure that no health facility is left unattended during their absence, guaranteeing service continuity.

Adding a political voice to the matter, the Secretary for Social Services, Hon. Mpabwa, declared that teamwork among all stakeholders should be sufficient to propel Bushenyi to the No. 1 position nationally in health services. Meanwhile, DHO Dr. Twinomugisha Stephen focused on the technical requirements for improved performance, emphasizing performance reviews focused on health outcomes, regular staff attendance, timely reporting, and effective client feedback mechanisms.
