A happy Royal dreamers player.

The first time fans in Bushenyi district got a treat of top flight football was in 1996 when Bushenyi United FC appeared in the then Uganda super league and was relegated in the same year of promotion with just 2 points in 30 games.

But still, that was a men’s not a women’s team for, women football in the area has not received that pomp and for many years, the fans have not got a treat of women football talent exhibition and competition at a level of a competitive national nor regional league.

But with the establishment of Royal Dreamers women football club, the fans’ anguish for a permanent treat to classic women football action is no longer a dream.

The side has gained promotion to the FUFA women elite league, just on their first season of asking, having gone through all the huddles to clinch the slot.

The Royals needed a 1-0 win over Kigezi zonal champions Mpororo Queens in the regional play offs final, courtesy of Adah Ninsiima goal, to get through and will be rubbing shoulders with the top bras in this local women football second tier league.

“To the team, it is a dream come true because the players were determined from the word go as they wanted to play at a much more higher level. To the fans it has come at a time they have been craving for serious women football and we thank them for the support,” Said team coach Jonathan Wangwanyi.

The players Bronia Atuzarirwe, Innocent Abesigamukama(C), Rabecca Aryahebwa, Shabellah Abahwera, Aisha Namuddu, Patricia Ankunda, Lucky Ampaire, Shilex Kyarisiima, Adah Ninsiima, Aderah Atwine, Vanisha Nuwaha and Adah Ninsiima will remain in the history books of the club.

“We are grateful that our effort have been rewarded and target achieved. Our promise is that we we shall go there and compete against the very best and we believe we shall still achieve,” Abesigamukama said.

Club proprietor Julius Bwahwayo says the club is aimed at bringing a fresh joy of women football in the area as their objective of qualifying to the FUFA Elite league has been achieved.
