St. Daniel Comboni Hospital in Kyamuhunga Sub-county, Bushenyi District, is seeking Shs189 million to purchase a new X-ray machine. According to Fr. Vincent Birungi, the chairperson of the hospital’s Board of Directors, the appeal was made on Friday during celebrations to mark the Feast of St. Daniel Comboni, the hospital’s patron saint. The mission hospital was founded by the late Fr. Paulino Tamaino under the Catholic Church.
Fr. Birungi said the hospital’s current X-ray machine broke down several months ago, greatly affecting the quality of healthcare services provided to patients.
“In the short term, we have sent a technician to Nairobi to purchase spare parts as we continue mobilizing funds for a new machine,” Fr. Birungi explained.

He added that the demand for health services continues to grow, yet the hospital faces major equipment shortages. “We lack an ambulance, an X-ray machine, and other diagnostic tools. The effects of COVID-19 left the hospital highly indebted, especially to drug suppliers,” he said.
The Bushenyi District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Sanyu Phionah, who was the guest of honour at the mini fundraising event, commended Comboni Hospital for its continued contribution to healthcare delivery in the district.
She noted that the district has consistently supported the facility through Primary Health Care (PHC) funding, adding that Shs147 million has been allocated to the hospital in the current financial year to boost its operations.
“Comboni Hospital plays a vital role in complementing government efforts to improve health services in Bushenyi. We appreciate their commitment,” Sanyu said.
The hospital management is now appealing to well-wishers, the Catholic community, and development partners to support their fundraising campaign to restore full diagnostic capacity.
