Police in Kisoro District are investigating the gruesome murder of a 19-year-old woman who was found dead with a deep stab wound to the head. The deceased has been identified as Brenda Nyirarimbagiza, a resident of Giko Village, Muramba Parish, Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro District.
According to police, Nyirarimbagiza’s body was discovered lying by the roadside in Giko Village in the early hours of Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Her mother, Muhawe Meridah (45), a peasant farmer from the same village, reported the matter to police after being alerted by residents. The deceased is said to have been mentally ill and often wandered around the village. Police said the body bore clear signs of violence, including a deep stab wound above the right temporal bone, although no struggle marks were found at the scene.
A team from Kisoro Central Police Station, working with homicide detectives, visited and documented the scene before transferring the body to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing under reference CRB 637/2025.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and appealed to the public to provide any information that may assist in the investigation.
“The deceased was a mentally disturbed person according to her mother. Her body had clear signs of violence. We appeal to anyone with information to share it with police so that those involved can be brought to book,” ASP Maate said.
