A devastating hailstorm struck Kalangala District Police headquarters on Bugala Island early this morning, leaving destruction in its wake and claiming three lives.
The storm, which hit at approximately 7:21 a.m., originated from the eastern side of Kalangala and caused extensive damage to the police barracks. Nearly all officers' accommodations were destroyed, and part of the station's administration roof was ripped off.
Among the deceased is Detective Sergeant Mujasi Michael, while the identities of the two civilian victims are yet to be confirmed. Several police officers and community members sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kalangala Health Centre IV for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Kalangala Hospital mortuary.
Rescue operations are currently underway as authorities assess the extent of the damage and provide support to the affected officers and residents.
SP Kasirye Twaha, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to manage the crisis.
