The suspect, identified as Nuwamanya Joshua, a resident of Akabaare Cell in Sanga Town Council, Kiruhura District, was apprehended on Sunday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the morning of 16 November 2025 at around 6:00 am when livestock farmer Nayebare Aggrey went to check his kraal. Nayebare immediately reported the matter to Sanga Police Station, prompting a swift response from officers who mobilized the K9 unit and investigative personnel.

Upon arriving at the crime scene in Akabaare Cell, police introduced the sniffer dog to the area. The dog quickly picked up a scent trail and followed it for approximately 70 metres, leading officers directly to the home of the suspect. Nuwamanya was found at home along with pangas believed to have been used in the slaughter of the animals. Police arrested him on the spot, and he is currently being detained at Sanga Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities say this arrest is part of ongoing efforts to curb livestock theft in the Rwizi cattle corridor, an area that has seen repeated cases of animal-related crime.
