In a successful demonstration of teamwork and technology, the Uganda Police Force recently resolved two burglary cases using its skilled Canine Unit, leading to the recovery of stolen items and the arrest of suspects in Ntungamo and Buyende Districts.

Case 1: Ntungamo District Recovery

On August 22, 2024, in Nyamunuka Town Council, Ntungamo District, Nasumba Hawa reported the theft of her TV and speakers. Responding swiftly, officers from Nyamunuka Police Station deployed a police sniffer dog, which led them directly to a bar owned by Tumanyanire. A search of the premises yielded the stolen items and some tools used in the burglary. Tumanyanire and his wife, Katushabe, were promptly arrested and are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

Case 2: Buyende District Recovery

In another operation on August 24, 2024, the Canine Unit was deployed in Buyende District after a burglary was reported by Waiswa Stone, who had three crates of beer and cartons of waragi stolen from his bar in Gwase Trading Center, Bugaya Subcounty. The sniffer dog traced the scent to Waiswa Bungu, who was found in possession of the stolen items and attempting to start a bar. The police recovered the crates of beer, and Bungu was arrested.

These successes highlight the efficiency of the Uganda Police Force's Canine Unit in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. The recovered items have been returned to their rightful owners, and the suspects are facing legal action.
