The UPDF recruitment team in Lira City has arrested nine potential candidates with fake national identification cards and academic papers.
Ahmad Hassan Kato, UPDF 4 Infantry Division spokesperson for Team Six, says that during the vetting of the candidates and verification of their academic documents, five candidates from Lira District were arrested with fake Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) transcripts and fake national identification cards.
He says four others from Lira City were also caught with fake UCE result slips and certificates.
The suspects were handed over to the Lira City Central Police Station for further investigation and management.

UPDF National Recruitment Team Six is at Akibua Stadium to recruit candidates who had initially applied and were shortlisted by the UPDF to join the forces.
Kato says the team recruited the shortlisted candidates from Lira City and Lira District on Sunday, and today (Monday), they recruited potential candidates from Alebtong and Otuke at the same venue.
Kato revealed that Team Six will later proceed to recruit candidates from the districts of Dokolo, Amolatar, Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Apac, Kwania, and Oyam between today and Saturday, July 13, as per the quotas allotted to each district based on the recent census statistics.
Successful participants were later engaged in a physical body examination checkup for body deformities by the medical team; thereafter, they were subjected to a 2-kilometre run in the stadium to examine their physical fitness abilities.
So far, Team Six has finalized the recruitment of candidates from Adjumani, Gulu City, Gulu District, Omoro, Nwoya, Amuru, Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader, and Agago districts.
“We appeal to the leaders in each of the remaining districts to organize their candidates and prepare them ahead of time so that their quotas are met,” Kato says.
Kato observes that for transparency, Team Six works closely with the district officials during vetting so that the screening is done jointly to avoid gaps.
"The recruitment venue is overwhelmed with applicants; even those over the required age limit, professionals, and those lacking the required Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) documents have come to Akibua Stadium to try their luck. Sadly, we cannot take them all," the spokesperson said.
The recruitment exercise ends on July 14, as per the UPDF timetable.
