The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, chaired an implementation committee meeting on Wednesday afternoon to finalize preparations for the upcoming Gen. Aronda Nyakairima Memorial Events.
Scheduled to take place from September 10th to 12th at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo, the events will feature the inaugural Kampala Defence and Security Expo, a Memorial Lecture with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the keynote speaker, and thanksgiving prayers.
The meeting, held at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe, was attended by senior military and Ministry of Defence officials. This follows earlier meetings, beginning with the initial steering committee session in July. Notable attendees included SFC Commander Maj. Gen. BD Mugisha, Maj. Gen. James Birungi – Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Maj. Gen. Jack Bakasumba – Chief of Joint Staff, and Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Innocent Oula, among other senior UPDF officers.
The Late Gen. Aronda Nyakairima
Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, who passed away in 2015, is remembered for his significant role in defeating insurgent groups such as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and Karamoja cattle rustlers. He served as the Chief of Defence Forces from 2003 to 2013 and was the Minister of Internal Affairs at the time of his death.
