Land is one resource that has never lost value in the world's geographical setting.

Considering factors such as proximity, accessibility and topography, these keep land value doubling day by day as far as commercialization is concerned.

Now, the association of old students of Kitagata secondary school in western Uganda’s Sheema district who named themselves after ‘Abatagayaara’ hatched their dream that they put into reality by venturing into land business in a virgin and growing city of Mbarara.

A fast growing Mbarara is one of the newly elevated municipalities to a city status that the association saw as prudent to invest in their savings.

A group of educated men and women is comprised of Engineers, teachers, doctors, businessmen and farmers is aiming at accumulating more finances to start a savings and credit society (SACCO)

Muzahura Benard, a member said ’’this is one way of raising funds that will put us to a level of starting a SACCO which will help us in times when we need money’’.

Edgar Mukundane, another member, told our reporter that unity is the principle that they lean on to pursue their dream.

‘’In difficult times like death and times of Joy, we have stood together and helped each other, and this is the main reason we started the association and is the same reason that has kept us standing’’. Said Mukundane.

Founded in 2016, the group of 73 members was able to bring on table sh.50m which they bought a 50x100 plot in Rwobuyenje A cell in Mbarara city North division that they plan to develop and construct commercial buildings.

Leonard Atwebembire, the chairperson of the association said they are responding to President Museveni’s call of forming groups and promoting common interests.

‘’President Museveni has always said it is easier to solve a problem as a group than when you are just an individual, and this approach has worked for us’’. Said Atwebembire, adding that; ‘’It has shown us light and our future is bright’’.

He says they are committed to buying more plots of land which they will be selling after developing them.

Laban Muhebwa, a retired commissioner of Police who is the chairperson of the association’s supervisory committee, said people in other groups should benchmark on actions of this association if they are to develop themselves financially.

‘’There is nothing that beats unity and in my clan (Abatiizi) we have a motto that says, 'Our unity is our strength’’. Said Mr. Muhebwa
