President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched the “Yoweri” song album produced by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) under the leadership of renowned artist Eddy Kenzo. The event was held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where the President commended musicians for their unity and creativity.
The album, which features songs blending indigenous Ugandan rhythms such as Runyankore, Gisu, Lusoga, and Acholi, was praised by the President for its cultural depth and international potential.
“I want to thank Eddy Kenzo and all the musicians for finally getting organised. Maama Janet and I are happy with the music produced, especially the incorporation of indigenous rhythms. These styles have the potential to become big hits internationally, much like how African Americans popularised jazz,” President Museveni said.

He assured the musicians of the government’s support in promoting Uganda’s unique cultural sounds, describing them as “exceptional and a great opportunity.”
Following the launch, several Ugandans took to the social media platform X to applaud the President’s support for local music.
Tusiime Julius wrote: “Thank you, Your Excellency, for recognizing and supporting Ugandan music. The incorporation of indigenous rhythms is a reflection of our rich cultural heritage, and with your encouragement, we can take our sounds to the global stage.”
Nasuuna Rania echoed the same sentiment: “Your support for our local rhythms and culture is deeply appreciated, Mr. President. With such encouragement, Ugandan music has the potential to inspire the world and make a lasting impact.”
The album launch is being viewed by many as not only a cultural milestone but also a political statement
Others linked the event to politics, with Tandeka Living applauding Kenzo’s leadership in mobilising musicians to back the NRM government: “We applaud @eddykenzoficial for organising musicians and leading them to support @NRMOnline and H.E. @KagutaMuseveni, who have enabled the steadfast development of this country. I call upon all Ugandans to rally behind him as we protect the gains.”
Meanwhile, Mutesi Fiona highlighted the cultural value of the music: “Indigenous sounds carry our identity. With your support, they will inspire generations both here and abroad. #WhyUgStillNeedsM7.”
The album launch is being viewed by many as not only a cultural milestone but also a political statement, coming at a time when the creative industry is positioning itself for greater recognition and influence in Uganda’s development agenda.
