MITYANA

A man described by authorities as a notorious land grabber has been charged and remanded to prison over allegations of fraud involving millions of shillings.
Lutwaama Isaac Magandaazi was on Thursday arraigned before the Mityana Chief Magistrate’s Court and charged with obtaining money by false pretences. He was remanded until April 9, 2026.
The charges stem from a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prosecution alleges that between March and August 2020, at Nawanga in Zigoti Town Council, Mityana District, Lutwaama fraudulently obtained UGX 37 million from a victim by falsely claiming he was selling land located at Block 24, Plot 53. Investigations later revealed that he neither owned the land nor had any authority to sell it.
Authorities say Lutwaama misled the complainant into believing he was the legitimate owner of the property, yet the land belonged to another individual.

The victim reported the matter to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, prompting investigations that led to Lutwaama’s arrest. During the probe, he reportedly confessed to obtaining money from the complainant under false pretences. Further investigations have linked Lutwaama to multiple similar cases in Mityana and Wakiso districts, raising concerns about a broader pattern of land-related fraud.

Authorities have since urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar schemes or had their land unlawfully taken to come forward and report to the relevant agencies.
