MASAKA – The Head Teacher of Butale Church of Uganda Primary School, Mr. Welishe Robert, has been remanded to prison after being arraigned before the Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of providing false information. The case, brought by the Anti-Corruption Taskforce in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), alleges that between February and May 2024, Mr. Welishe deliberately submitted false pupil enrollment records to the Masaka City Education Officer.

According to prosecutors, Mr. Welishe falsely claimed that 423 pupils were enrolled under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program at the school. It is alleged that he was aware this misrepresentation could cause financial loss to the government by inflating the number of students eligible for UPE funding.

The accused was charged with providing false information and was remanded to custody until December 23, 2024, when the case will return to court for further mention.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability in the education sector and preventing fraudulent practices that undermine public service delivery.
