The suspects have been identified as Ruhangariyo Samuel Innocent and Kamukama Alex, alias “Kadogo.” They are accused of stealing six bunches of matooke from Ms Ahiruhangari’s plantation.
“The complainant woke up to inspect her garden and discovered that unknown people had cut and stolen matooke from her plantation,” police said in a statement.

Ms Ahiruhangari immediately reported the matter to Mbare Police Station and requested sniffer dog services to track the suspects. The sniffer dog led officers to where the suspects had kept the matooke, about 200 metres away. “A police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene and picked up a strong scent trail, leading officers to the home of Mr Samuel Innocent Ruhangariyo. A search was conducted, and six bunches of stolen matooke were recovered from inside his room,” the statement read.

It was established that the suspect is a neighbour of the complainant and is allegedly a habitual offender.
“Investigations are ongoing as police prepare the suspects for prosecution, together with Alex Kamukama, the accomplice of Ruhangariyo, who was subsequently arrested,” police added.
