Entebbe
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni on Tuesday evening hosted the Uganda Cranes for a celebratory dinner at State House Entebbe, following the team’s spirited performance in the recently concluded continental tournament. In his remarks, the President commended the players for their resilience on the pitch and reflected on lessons from their encounter with Algeria, which he said carried military parallels.
“Every Force has an Area of Responsibility (AOR). When everyone goes on the offensive and leaves the defense and goalkeeper exposed, the opponent can easily exploit that gap,” Museveni explained, drawing from principles he often teaches in the military.
Despite this technical observation, the Head of State praised the Cranes’ effort, noting that their determination brought pride to the nation. He emphasized the importance of motivation in building capacity, confirming that government had fulfilled its pledge to the team.
The dinner also recognized the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), chaired by the First Lady, for successfully overseeing Uganda’s first continental tournament, co-hosted with Kenya and Tanzania.
“This event was not only a sports competition but also a lesson in unity and regional capacity,” Museveni said.
The Uganda Cranes’ campaign has been celebrated nationwide, with many hailing the team’s progress as a sign of growing strength in Ugandan football.
