Remanded: Moses Ssekamatte and Sharon Birungi

Moses Ssekamatte and his girlfriend, Sharon Birungi, have been remanded to prison on charges of murder following the death of Shadia Nansamba in Bunamwaya. The two suspects were arraigned in court and charged in connection with the killing of Nansamba, who was reportedly Ssekamatte’s former partner and the mother of his five-year-old son.

According to information gathered by this publication, Nansamba had spent three years working in Dubai and had allegedly been sending her earnings to Ssekamatte in Uganda with the hope that they would invest in their future together. Upon her return to Uganda, however, misunderstandings reportedly arose after Ssekamatte allegedly declined to accommodate her at his residence and instead rented a separate house for her in Bunamwaya. This reportedly led to suspicions that he had entered another relationship during her absence.

Sources further allege that Nansamba later demanded accountability for the money she had sent while abroad or that Ssekamatte use it to establish a salon business for her. It is claimed that he declined, saying he had no funds available, prompting her to sell her mobile phone to raise capital to start the business.

The fatal incident is said to have occurred weeks later when Nansamba reportedly arrived late at her salon and found Ssekamatte already there in the company of Birungi. A confrontation allegedly ensued, escalating into a physical altercation.

During the scuffle, Birungi allegedly picked up a paver and struck Nansamba on the head, leaving her unconscious. The suspects reportedly fled the scene. Nansamba was later pronounced dead.

She was laid to rest last Wednesday in Kyotera District. The accused persons remain on remand as investigations continue. If convicted of murder, they face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment under Ugandan law.
