Former Bushenyi District Speaker and ex-Member of Parliament for Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality, Odo Tayebwa, has been appointed Senior Presidential Advisor on Poverty Alleviation on local contract terms, according to an appointment letter issued by the Ministry of Public Service.

The letter, dated 24 November 2025 and addressed to Mr. Odo Tayebwa, states that the appointment follows a directive by His Excellency the President, exercised under Article 172(1)(a) of the Constitution of Uganda, 1995 (as amended).

The contract places Tayebwa in the Public Service structure as one of the President's technical advisors on poverty eradication initiatives.

Tayebwa, a long-serving political figure from Greater Bushenyi, first gained prominence as Speaker of the Bushenyi District Council, where he was known for championing local government accountability, improved service delivery, and community-centred development programs.

He later represented Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality in the 9th Parliament, where he served on several committees and was vocal on issues affecting the greater Ankole sub-region, particularly agriculture, rural infrastructure, and youth livelihood programmes.

His experience in local governance and constituency mobilisation is said to have positioned him well for his new advisory role.

The appointment is expected to strengthen government efforts toward tackling persistent poverty in rural communities, especially in areas that continue to lag behind economically despite being agriculturally productive.
