Leaders and the Muslim community in Sheema District are mourning the sudden death of Hakim Mugabi, the LC3 Chairperson of Kashozi Division.
Mugabi, 56, collapsed on Friday morning, September 19, 2025, and died at around 8:30 a.m. while being rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital due to complications arising from high blood pressure. He had served as LC3 Chairperson for Kashozi Division since 2021 and was recently elected the NRM party flag bearer for the same division.

In May this year, Mugabi also won the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Sheema Municipality, defeating Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, the Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, with 91 votes against 34.

At the time of his death, he was also serving as Chairperson of Sheema Muslims and was a member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) General Assembly.

Several leaders described him as a hardworking and unifying figure.
Sheikh Sulamain Kafeero, the Sheema District Kadhi, said Mugabi’s passing had left a huge gap in the Muslim community. “We have lost a pillar of our religion in the district. Hakim served with integrity and always encouraged others to work for Islam,” he said.

Sam Orikunda, the Sheema Deputy Resident Commissioner, praised Mugabi as a committed leader who focused on issues affecting the people of Kashozi. “He helped us resolve a number of issues in his division, especially matters of security and land disputes. It is very unfortunate that we have lost him at a time when we needed him the most,” he said.

Mugabi will be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at his home in Rwanyamukinya, Kashozi Division, Sheema Municipality.
