The Anti-Corruption Court has granted former Ntare School headteacher Jimmy Turyagyenda, 63, cash bail of Shs5 million in a case involving the alleged loss of Shs110.8 million in government funds.
Principal Magistrate Christopher Opit granted Turyagyenda bail after he presented substantial sureties and proof of payment of part of the money allegedly owed to the Government.
Turyagyenda was arrested on October 28 alongside the current Ntare School headteacher, former Bushenyi District Education Officer (DEO) Saul Rwampororo, and former school typist Peace Kebirungi. The three are jointly charged with financial loss and abuse of office.
They are accused of causing the Government a financial loss of Shs110,877,900 through irregular salary payments, allowances and retirement benefits allegedly paid to Kebirungi despite her having abandoned her duties.

The prosecution alleges that Kebirungi used a forged university admission letter in October 2015 to obtain study leave with pay but never returned to work.
However, she allegedly continued receiving her government salary until August 2024, with Turyagyenda and Rwampororo accused of concealing her absence and authorising additional allowances paid from school fees.
The prosecution further alleges that Rwampororo forwarded Kebirungi's early retirement application in 2023 despite her alleged abandonment of duty. She subsequently retired in 2024 and received gratuity and pension benefits.
Turyagyenda denied the charges and is expected to return to court on November 20, 2026.
Meanwhile, Rwampororo, who is currently out on bail granted by the Inspectorate of Government, was required to appear before the Inspectorate on Tuesday to record a charge and caution statement but failed to turn up.
Kebirungi also appeared before the Inspectorate but reportedly left without recording her statement.
