Israel hints at possible Airstrikes targeting Iran’s regime

Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, warned that Iran “will not know what’s hit them"

TEL AVIV  — Israel has indicated plans for potential airstrikes aimed at weakening Iran’s regime, following recent missile attacks by Tehran. The strikes, intended to target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij paramilitary force, are reportedly being coordinated with the United States, according to The Times.

Though a single round of airstrikes is unlikely to topple the Iranian regime, a Western official suggested that a strong Israeli offensive could spark opposition within Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a video message addressed to the Iranian people, urged them not to let “a small group of fanatic theocrats crush your hopes and dreams.” He added, “The people of Iran should know: Israel stands with you. When Iran is finally free — and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think — everything will be different."

Iran launched 200 missiles into Israel

The statement was made just days before Iran launched 200 missiles into Israel on October 1, causing no casualties but prompting Israeli leaders to prepare for retaliation. Netanyahu hopes the airstrikes will weaken the two pillars of Iran’s Islamic regime: the IRGC, an elite military force, and the Basij, a loyalist militia composed of foot soldiers.

Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, warned that Iran “will not know what’s hit them” once Israel retaliates. In a video, Gallant emphasized that Israel’s response will be “deadly, precise, and above all surprising."

Netanyahu has also vowed that Iran will face consequences for its missile attack, which Washington and Israeli officials have labeled as ineffective. While the attack caused no casualties, Iran’s leadership remains defiant, with officials stating that the spirit of resistance would only grow stronger, especially following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

Sinwar was Israel's biggest enemy

Sinwar, considered one of the masterminds of the October 7 attack on Israel, was killed in a gun battle in southern Gaza. His death, confirmed on Thursday, was seen by Western leaders as an opportunity for the conflict to de-escalate. However, Netanyahu vowed that the war would continue until all hostages taken by Hamas militants were freed. “Today we have settled the score,” Netanyahu said in a recorded video statement. “But our task has still not been completed. We will continue full force until all your loved ones, our loved ones, are home.”

Sinwar, who took over Hamas leadership after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in July, had been hiding in Gaza’s tunnel network for years. While Hamas has not officially commented on Sinwar’s death, sources within the group confirmed indications that he was killed by Israeli troops.
