The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched its nationwide recruitment exercise, with successful operations already conducted in Adjumani and Kaabong districts. In Adjumani District, the recruitment exercise took place at Paridi Stadium, where 36 candidates successfully passed the physical screening. Out of 61 shortlisted applicants, 51 turned up for the exercise, while 10 failed to report. The recruitment was overseen by Colonel David Opeero, who is supervising the process in the Northern Region.

Col. Opeero confirmed that the recruitment was conducted in a transparent and accountable manner, under the observation of relevant stakeholders, including local leaders and security agencies.
However, several applicants were disqualified during the screening:
All successful candidates will receive admission letters and are required to report individually to the Recruit Training School in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District, within three days.
The recruitment team is scheduled to proceed to Pece Stadium in Gulu City on August 6, where they will screen candidates from Gulu City, Gulu District, and Omoro District.
Meanwhile, in the Karamoja Sub-region, recruitment efforts also commenced in Kaabong District, led by Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye (Team Seven). The exercise was held at the Kaabong District Headquarters, where:

Col. Tumuranzye praised the effective coordination between the recruitment team and local leaders, crediting timely mobilisation for the smooth execution of the exercise despite difficult terrain and weather.
Kaabong Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Stephen Latek Odongo, congratulated the successful recruits and urged them to maintain discipline, patriotism, and commitment throughout their military service. He reminded them to report to Kaweweta promptly, warning that late reporting could lead to disqualification. He also noted that this year, recruits are expected to cover their own transport costs to the training school.
