Sheema - Amanya Mackline, the Senior Human Resource Officer for Ibanda Municipality, tragically passed away due to alleged domestic violence. New details surrounding her death have since emerged.
Mackline succumbed to her injuries at Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital in Ishaka on Saturday, April 5, 2024, after a prolonged battle for her life. She had reportedly been assaulted by her husband in November 2023 and had been fighting for her life ever since.

Investigation underway
The circumstances of her death are currently under investigation by police officers from the Rwizi Region. Sources close to the family allege that her husband, Amwiine Innocent, the NRM registrar for Ibanda District, was responsible for the assault. The suspected motive, according to family sources, stems from Innocent’s suspicions that Mackline was romantically involved with other men—allegations that reportedly sparked the violent confrontation.

Burial dispute
A disagreement has arisen between the family of the late Mackline and her husband regarding her burial site. Innocent is accused of using intimidation, reportedly involving UPDF officers, to gain control of Mackline's body from the KIU Ishaka mortuary. According to Muhereza Elly, Mackline’s uncle, the family wishes for her to be buried in their ancestral home in Bugongi, Sheema District, while Amwiine insists on burying her in Kayenje, Nyabuhikye, Ibanda District.

Disturbing account of final moments
Kemirembe, Mackline’s aunt and caregiver during her hospital stay, revealed that Mackline had confided in her that her husband had physically assaulted her—striking her on the neck with a stick. Kemirembe also noted that Mackline expressed a clear wish to be laid to rest in Bugongi, Sheema, which has further fueled the burial site dispute.
Family members rejected the post-motem reports from the hospital
Family disputes KIU postmortem report
The family has also voiced strong disagreement with the postmortem report issued by KIU Teaching Hospital, which stated that Mackline died from a spinal disease.
This conclusion has raised suspicions among family members, who are questioning the accuracy and thoroughness of the report. They have since requested that the body be transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a second postmortem to ensure a more comprehensive investigation into the real cause of death. Muhereza Elly confirmed that the family made the decision to move the body to Mbarara to facilitate a more transparent and credible postmortem examination.
