Mpigi, Uganda — The Mpigi Chief Magistrates Court has charged and remanded the Mpigi District LC V Chairperson, Mr. Ssejjemba Martine, along with Mr. Kirumira Fredrick, Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and Ms. Nakamoga Sarah, Secretary of the Commission, on allegations of soliciting bribes from job applicants. The trio appeared in court on charges of demanding money by menaces, following reports that the District Service Commission has been demanding bribes ranging from UGX 50,000 to 15 million from candidates seeking government jobs.

Their arrest comes after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, during his recent Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025, received complaints from locals about rampant corruption in the district’s recruitment processes. The President immediately ordered Brig Gen Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to investigate and arrest all officials involved.
The accused have been remanded until July 8, 2025, pending further investigations.

The case has reignited public debate over corruption in local government recruitment, with many residents demanding tougher measures against officials who abuse their offices for personal gain.
