Residents of Masheruka Town Council and Masheruka Sub-county have praised Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament, Rosemary Nyakikongoro, for her role in spearheading development in their communities. While campaigning in the area earlier today, Nyakikongoro was lauded for championing key initiatives such as the provision of clean water, the extension of electricity, and funding women’s savings groups.
“We now have clean water and electricity in areas that had been neglected for years. The MP has truly transformed our lives,” said a resident of Kanyeganyegye Trading Centre.
Tumwine Alex, a resident of Nyakambu Cell in Sheema North, said the MP’s efforts have directly improved infrastructure in his area.
“Nyakikongoro has provided clean water and extended electricity to several villages in Sheema North. Her leadership is visible and impactful,” he noted.
Nyakikongoro, who is seeking re-election, was also commended for advocating for increased salaries for arts teachers, better pay for security personnel, and the protection of women’s rights. Agaba Caroline, a resident of Kabutsye A Cell, said many women had benefited from the MP’s empowerment initiatives.
“She has helped women here with soap making and handcraft production. We now have a way to earn and support our families,” she said. While addressing supporters at Kanyeganyegye and Kabutsye trading centres, Nyakikongoro announced that the government had already allocated funds for the tarmacking of the 46.6-kilometre Kabwohe–Masheruka–Nyakambu–Bwizibwera–Nsiika road.
“This road will ease the transportation of goods to markets and better connect our communities. Funds have been secured, and we expect works to commence soon,” she said.
The MP also revealed that she had lobbied for billions of shillings for the rehabilitation of roads across the district. “Good roads are the backbone of development. We are committed to ensuring that even the most remote areas are accessible,” she added.
Nyakikongoro urged residents to vote for continuity, saying her next term would focus on consolidating the gains made and bringing more services closer to the people.
She is among six candidates contesting for the Sheema District Woman MP seat in the upcoming NRM primary elections. The other aspirants include Hellen Kabaami, Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa, Agaba Pheonah, Generous Kyohairwe, and Shafra Nasiima.
The NRM primaries for Members of Parliament are scheduled for the 17th of this month and will be conducted through lining up.
