The national U17 boys’ football team — the Uganda Cubs — will today, Tuesday, fly out of the country to Dubai, where the team will camp for several days before heading to Qatar for the FIFA U17 World Cup. The team, which started camping in Uganda a few weeks ago, is shifting to the Gulf region to acclimatize to the hot weather conditions there and prepare for the three-week tournament scheduled for November 3–27 in different cities across Qatar.

Yesterday, the Cubs held their final training session in Uganda and played a build-up match against the 2024 FEASSA Games champions, Amus College School, at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The Cubs registered a resounding 5–0 victory, with James Bogere scoring a hat-trick, while Abubakali Walusimbi and Kamurungi Nuwagaba added a goal each.

While the senior national team, the Uganda Cranes, fell short of qualifying for the global showpiece for the first time, the Uganda Cubs made history by becoming the first Ugandan football team to qualify for any FIFA World Cup tournament, after beating The Gambia 2–1 at the AFCON U17 tournament held in April this year in Morocco. Uganda has been drawn in Group K alongside Canada, Chile, and France. The Cubs will open their campaign against Canada on November 5, before facing Chile on November 8, and wrapping up the group stage against France on November 11.
