KIRYANDONGO
Two men have been charged and remanded to prison over alleged fraudulent dealings involving the estate of a deceased woman in Kiryadongo District.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, arraigned Kamukama David and Nuwagira George before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kiryadongo on charges of forgery, uttering a false document, conspiracy to commit a felony, and intermeddling with the estate of the deceased.
The duo was remanded until February 20, 2026.
Prosecution alleges that Kamukama and Nuwagira, together with another suspect still at large, fraudulently created a false land sale agreement dated February 15, 2002, purportedly signed by the late Kabiyanja Joy. The document allegedly claimed that the deceased had sold them approximately 100 acres of land located in Kamusenene Village, Kiryadongo District.
However, investigations revealed that Kabiyanja Joy passed away in 2000, two years before the purported agreement was made, casting doubt on the authenticity of the document.
It is further alleged that the accused knowingly presented the forged land sale agreement to relevant authorities and went ahead to sell portions of the disputed land to third parties, despite being aware that the land did not belong to them.
According to investigators, the land lawfully belongs to the estate of the late Kabiyanja Joy and her children, who hold valid letters of administration. Authorities said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend the third suspect who remains at large.
