Police in Rukungiri District have arrested two brothers in connection with the alleged murder of Evaristo Nuwabine, 32, alias Thursday, whose body was discovered on Thursday morning, October 2, 2025, in a water trench at Kibarama village along the Rukungiri–Kihihi highway. The suspects are Muhwezi Narasensio and Tindyebwa Hillary.

According to preliminary police reports, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at around 6:00 pm, Nuwabine was drinking alcohol (waragi) with his brothers Arinaitwe Ambrose, Narasensio, Hillary, and Darius, son of Batamanya Gadi, at a bar owned by Kyarikunda Moreen. At about 7:00 pm, the group shifted to another bar belonging to Nankunda Christian, alias Acleo, though Ambrose had already left.

The remaining four continued drinking until 9:00 pm when the bar closed. They then moved to Nuwagaba Obadia’s bar, where they continued drinking. Shortly after, Hillary left, leaving Nuwabine, Narasensio, and Obadia behind. By 11:00 pm, Obadia also closed his bar, and Narasensio left with the deceased as they headed to their respective homes. The following morning, at around 7:00 am, Hillary reportedly found his brother’s lifeless body in a trench along the highway with multiple head injuries.
He immediately alerted local residents and the area chairperson, Henry Matendere, who reported the matter to police.

ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was last seen with his brother Narasensio. “Both brothers have been arrested to assist police in establishing the circumstances that led to this tragic incident,” Maate stated.

Local chairperson Henry Matendere expressed shock over the killing.
“It is very sad to wake up to such a gruesome scene in our community. We hope the police will expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Police officers from Bugangari Police Station visited, processed, and documented the scene before transporting the body to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination. “Inquiries are ongoing,” ASP Maate added.

Meanwhile, residents of Kibarama village have called for heightened security along the Rukungiri–Kihihi highway, citing growing concerns over alcohol-related violence in the area.
