Armed thugs raided the Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Kawempe

Kampala

Armed thugs raided the Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Kawempe division early Sunday morning, resulting in one of them being shot dead. The incident occurred when the assailants scaled the perimeter wall and attacked Sgt. Moses Ssemboga, the police officer who was guarding the premises.

The attackers struck Sgt. Ssemboga with a metal object, prompting him to fire his weapon in self-defense, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire revealed. According to Owoyesigyire, one of the attackers, identified as Ali Mugerwa, was injured by the gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries at Mulago Hospital. “The other suspect managed to escape and remains at large.”

Owoyesigyire said an investigation has been launched to apprehend the fugitive and determine the motive behind the attack.
"We are pursuing all leads to capture the second suspect and urge anyone with information to come forward," Owoyesigyire told the press at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

When contacted, EC Spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi confirmed the incident, saying police had taken up the matter. “I am aware of an incident involving an intruder at our offices in Kawempe over the weekend. The incident is being investigated by the police in Kawempe division,” Mucunguzi said.
