Police in the Kigezi Region are investigating three separate murder incidents that occurred in Kisoro, Kabale and Rubanda districts, leaving three people dead and one injured. Several suspects have been arrested, while others remain at large. The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, said the incidents, reported between January 9 and 10, 2026, stemmed from domestic violence, mob justice and assault.

Wife, Son Accused of Killing Man in Kisoro
In Kisoro District, police arrested Dusabe Anonsiata (50) and are hunting for her son, Richard Iraguha, over the alleged murder of her husband, Joram Hafashimana (56).
The incident occurred on January 9, 2026, at about 10:30pm in Gancence Cell, Kananira Central Ward, Mupaka Town Council.
Maate said investigations indicate that Hafashimana was attacked following a long-standing domestic dispute, allegedly triggered by his decision to gift land to his daughter-in-law.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted the deceased before the son used a panga to cut off one of his arms and seriously injure the other. The wife is accused of later cutting him on the head with the same weapon, killing him instantly,” Maate said.
The murder was reported by the deceased’s brother, Sikubwabo Daniel, who witnessed the attack. Police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements, and conveyed the body to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Mob Kills Suspected Thief in Kabale
In Kabale District, police are investigating a case of mob justice that led to the death of a man identified only as Spancer, a resident of Makanga Cell, Central Division, Kabale Municipality. The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, at about 1:30am in Karugashe Cell, Butobere Ward.
Maate said the deceased and another man, Gilbert Ainebyona (28) of Kigongi B Ward, were allegedly caught stealing from a bar and a nearby hair salon.
“The suspects were apprehended by bar and salon owners, which attracted a mob that assaulted them, resulting in the death of Spancer and injuries to Ainebyona,” Maate said. Ainebyona was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, while the body was taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem. Police arrested Twinomujuni Anthony, Kashengye Emmanuel and Muhozi Mathew, alias Kahorera, to assist with investigations.

Businessman Held Over Murder in Rubanda
In Rubanda District, police arrested Laban Ndyamuhaki (35), a businessman, over the alleged murder of Turyasingura Lawrence (33).
The incident was discovered on the morning of January 10, 2026, in Keru Village, Bigungiro Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county. Residents became suspicious after noticing bloodstains at the entrance of the suspect’s bar, which was locked from both outside and inside. A police team led by the Officer in Charge of Station, ASP Ahimbisibwe Melach Girigori, processed the scene and arrested the suspect, who was found hiding inside the bar.

Police recovered bloodstained clothes, a panga, a knife and a stick believed to have been used in the assault. The body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Maate said investigations into all three cases are ongoing. “Inquiries are still ongoing to establish the circumstances and motives surrounding these incidents,” he said.
