Three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of three family members and the serious injury of two others in a suspected aggravated robbery in Kazo District.

The incident happened during the night of September 24, 2026, at an unspecified time, at Kagasha 1 Cell, Nkungu Parish, Nkungu Sub-County, according to police.

The deceased have been identified as Ntegyerize Afusa, 47, a resident of Kagasha 1 Cell, and two children — Tumuramye Sudais, 14, and Nuwandinda Asifa, 11.

The two injured victims are Nagasha Zulaika, 16, and Nuwahereza Aramazani, 13. They were rushed to a health centre before being referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira said the victims were attacked while in their beds.

"The deceased persons were attacked in their house during the night while in their beds. The assailants gained entry through the back door, which was not properly locked," Kasasira said.

Police said the suspected motive for the attack was to steal Shs1 million that had been obtained from a village savings group on September 6 and was intended for the bride price of one of the deceased's sons.

The incident was discovered at about 8am on September 25 when Nuwahereza Abdul Ratifu, a son in the same home, went to his mother's house to collect his tuk-tuk for work.

According to police, Abdul found the house open and discovered his sister, brother, and mother lying in pools of blood. He also found two other children seriously injured in another bedroom.

He rushed the injured children to a health centre, from where they were referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident. They have been identified as Nuwamanya Michael, Nuwamanya Christopher, and Asiimwe Abel, all boda boda riders.

Kasasira said the suspects were arrested to facilitate investigations.

Police also searched the suspects' homes and recovered items of evidential value, which were submitted for forensic examination.

Kasasira said post-mortems were conducted at the scene of crime on the three deceased persons.

"Inquiries into the matter are still ongoing," Kasasira said.
