Police in Rwampara District have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Tumwesigye Damazo, a resident of Mweya cell, Nyeihanga ward. The suspect, identified as Banabas, is reportedly the son of the deceased. Damazo's body was discovered in a roadside trench on February 22, 2025, prompting residents to alert the police. In response, the police deployed its canine unit, with the dog Hector tracking a human scent from the crime scene to Banabas' home, approximately 1.5 kilometers away.
During a search of Banabas' premises, authorities recovered a black T-shirt with blood stains, which Banabas' wife had allegedly taken to a neighbor's home. Investigations further revealed that Banabas and his father had a strained relationship prior to the incident.
The police are continuing their investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding Damazo's murder. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as they work to bring justice to the case.
