National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates from Sheema South have officially endorsed Richard Muhangi as their preferred candidate for the position of Sheema District NRM Chairperson.
The endorsement was made during a delegates' meeting held on Sunday at Muhangi's residence in Kanyina, Sheema Ward, Sheema Municipality. The meeting attracted several local NRM leaders who expressed confidence in Muhangi's leadership and vision for the district.

Paddy Mukarate, the NRM Chairperson for the Elderly in Kitagata Subcounty, called on fellow party members to rally behind leaders with integrity and the capacity to lobby for development.

“We need leaders who have the people at heart—those who can lobby for services and restore the dignity of the NRM in Sheema. Richard is that kind of leader,” Mukarate stated.

Patience Ayesiga, the NRM Women's League Chairperson for Kitagata Subcounty, also spoke highly of Muhangi, noting his consistency, commitment, and openness to community concerns.
“He is a listener, a mobilizer, and a unifier. We believe he will bring sanity and cohesion to our district leadership,” Ayesiga said.

Other delegates echoed similar sentiments, praising Muhangi for his strong grassroots presence and his ability to rally support for party values and unity.

In his remarks, Richard Muhangi thanked the delegates for their overwhelming support and pledged to lead with transparency, discipline, and inclusivity.
“I am deeply honored by this endorsement. Together, we shall build a stronger NRM and a more prosperous Sheema,” he said. “My focus will be on effective party mobilization, strengthening unity among members, and driving real development for our people.”

Muhangi also pledged to support local NRM leaders with cattle and improved pasture to help them engage in sustainable farming and boost their livelihoods.
The endorsement has positioned Muhangi as a leading contender in the race for Sheema District NRM Chairperson, as the party prepares for its upcoming internal elections on Friday, May 25th.

Leaders condemn Divisive Politics Within the Party
During the same meeting, NRM leaders strongly condemned the divisive politics that have taken root in the district. They cited the example of former NRM District Chairperson Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, who chose to contest as an independent candidate after losing the party flag to Dicksons Kateshumbwa during the 2020 NRM primaries for the Sheema Municipality parliamentary seat.

Leaders said that such behavior undermines party cohesion and unity.
“When leaders disregard party decisions and go independent after losing in primaries, it creates confusion and weakens the party’s strength on the ground.”

The leaders emphasized the need for discipline, unity, and loyalty among party members as the foundation for sustainable political and developmental progress in Sheema District.
