Pictures of Ex-boyfriend 'who torched Olympic marathon star Rebecca Cheptegei to death after dousing her with petrol' in front of her daughter have surfaced for the first time since the incident on Sunday
Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan Olympic marathon runner, this morning tragically died after being doused in petrol and set on fire by her ex-boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, in front of her daughter. Cheptegei, 33, suffered burns over 80% of her body and succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya.

The attack occurred at her home in Trans Nzoia County, near the Ugandan border, following an alleged dispute over land. Cheptegei’s daughter tried to intervene during the assault but was kicked away. Neighbors attempted to help but were unable to extinguish the flames.
Ndiema, who sustained burns during the attack, is also receiving treatment at the same hospital. Police are investigating the incident, and authorities have called for swift justice.

Cheptegei recently competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and placed 44th in the marathon. Her death has sparked tributes from Uganda’s Olympic Committee and athletes worldwide, with many condemning domestic violence.The tragic event echoes past violence against female athletes in the region, including the murders of Kenyan runners Damaris Mutua and Agnes Tirop.
