Sheema - Senior Presidential Advisor on Manifesto Implementation, Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, has encouraged women to actively participate in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of their perspectives in national development.

With Uganda preparing for both party primary elections and the 2026 general elections, Kamuntu stressed the need for greater female involvement in shaping the country’s future.
“We need to ensure that women’s voices are heard and their concerns addressed in the development agenda,” Kamuntu said. “By participating in elections, women can influence policies that impact their lives and communities.”

While addressing women from Rugarama Sub-county and Shuuku Town Council in Sheema South, Kamuntu highlighted government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP).

“Programs like PDM and UWEP are designed to empower women economically and socially,” Kamuntu explained. “It’s crucial for women to understand these opportunities and utilize them for their benefit.”
The meetings, held at Rugarama Church of Uganda and Ryakasinga Community Hall, aimed to sensitize women about these government programs and empower them to engage with local development opportunities.
During the meetings, women expressed frustration over several pressing issues, including lack of access to clean water, poor road infrastructure, and inadequate healthcare services.

They particularly voiced disappointment over unfulfilled promises regarding water access, despite having paid fees to the town council.
“We paid 100,000 shillings to the town council officials, expecting clean water in our homes, but nothing has been done,” said Jenipher Nuwabiine. “Even when the pipes were delivered, they were taken back without explanation, leaving us without the service we paid for.”

In response, Professor Kamuntu assured the women that he would follow up on their concerns.
“I will ensure that these issues are addressed, and we will work towards providing clean water, improving road networks, and enhancing healthcare services in your area,” he said.
