Girls’ and women’s football in Uganda, particularly in the Ankole region, has taken a remarkable positive turn, with both the number of female players and the level of skill steadily increasing.
This growth has largely been driven by the adoption of the sport in educational institutions, starting from lower primary through to secondary school, leading to the establishment of football clubs across the region.
The progress of the game is evident in the performances of several secondary schools from Western Uganda, including Boni Consilii, Sheema Girls, Nyabubare SS, and Kyeizooba Girls, among others, which have in recent years put up strong performances against established top sides such as Kawempe Moslem and St Noa at the national level.

However, football fans and stakeholders in Ankole had never witnessed such rare talent in a female player until the recently concluded USSSA Ankole girls’ football championship in Ibanda.

National bronze medallists and eventual champions Boni Consilii, who have dominated this championship for the past three years, have gone a step further by producing a rare talent in their new team member, Peace Muduwa.

The 17-year-old, born in Sironko District, joined the Isingiro-based side this term in Senior Five on a high-profile transfer from Shammah Girls High School in Mityana.
Her arrival has not only strengthened the team’s attacking force, positioning them for continued dominance in Ankole, but has also inspired further growth of the game in the region.
The unstoppable winger, who can also play as a striker, caught the attention of football fans in Ibanda, many of whom thronged the grounds whenever Boni Consilii played, eager to watch the emerging star.

Her exceptional ability was reflected in her goal-scoring prowess, netting 26 goals in eight matches during the championship. She only failed to score in the final, where Rinah Ariho converted a penalty in their 1-0 victory over Sheema Girls. It was therefore no surprise that Muduwa was named both the Most Valuable Player and the tournament’s top scorer.

“I am delighted to have been part of the winning team and to have contributed to the victories that earned us the title. I am still working hard to improve, and with teammates like these, I am confident we can achieve even more,” said the soft-spoken Muduwa.

She scored a variety of goals, from set pieces to solo efforts, including eight goals in the 16-0 rout of Maria Girls in their final group match.
“She is a very disciplined player with a strong willingness to learn, and she remains a valuable addition to our team. With the teamwork we have, she—and the team—can achieve great things in school football,” said Boni Consilii team manager Primus Ngabirano.

Wearing the captain’s armband, Muduwa led Boni Consilii to their third consecutive USSSA Ankole girls’ football title after a 1-0 victory over rivals Sheema Girls in the final held in Ibanda.
With her in the squad, the reigning national bronze medallists are now strong contenders as they prepare for the national girls’ football championship scheduled for next month in Mukono.

Born in Sironko District, Muduwa attended His Grace Nursery and Primary School before joining Shammah High School in Mityana for her O-Level studies. She is currently a student at Boni Consilii Girls’ Vocational Secondary School Kyabirukwa in Isingiro District, where she is pursuing HED/ICT.

Muduwa also plies her trade with Kampala Queens Women Football Club alongside Esther Ainembabazi, Rinah Ariho, and Loyce Komugisha in the FUFA Women Super League. However, the quartet is not eligible to feature for the school side in the FUFA Elite League.
