WAKISO -  Pastor Jeff, also known as Mwesige Geoffrey Kiiza, appeared before the Kira Chief Magistrates' Court yesterday on multiple charges, including attempting to evict a bonafide occupant without an eviction order, destroying growing plants, and theft. He was remanded until October 3, 2024.

The charges stem from an incident in August 2024, when Pastor Jeff, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly attempted to forcibly evict the family of the late Abiyasaali Kasozi from their ancestral land in Kireka. The eviction, which lacked a court order, also involved cutting down eucalyptus trees that had been cultivated by the family for over 40 years.

Despite a directive from the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to stop the eviction, Pastor Jeff continued his actions, allegedly selling the felled trees. His defiance goes against President Museveni’s directives on protecting the rights of Bibanja holders, emphasizing the illegality of evicting lawful occupants without proper procedures.

The arrest and arraignment were a joint effort by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Authorities are still pursuing others involved in the illegal eviction attempt.
